Glenn Beck is raising concerns about a new banking initiative in Canada that would allow money to move between financial institutions as programmable digital tokens, warning that the same technology designed to make payments faster and more convenient could also be used to restrict access to funds.

Beck said the six largest banks in Canada are working together on the effort: Royal Bank, TD, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC, and National Bank.

"Last week, the six biggest banks in Canada announced they're building something together. Oh goody! I love that. The Royal Bank, TDBMO, Scotia Bank, CIBC, and the National Bank," Beck said.

According to Beck, the project would convert traditional money held in bank accounts into digital tokens capable of moving quickly between participating institutions.

What's happening in Irkutsk? According to one of my friends in Ufa: not much. So let's take a closer look at who launched the website to "monitor" the infection situation in Irkutsk, and why?

First came an official statement from Rospotrebnadzor, which was spread in Russian media on October 4: an employee at an institute for combating plague in the Irkutsk region has been diagnosed with pneumonia of unknown origin. So far so good. It happens relatively often in the region bordering Eastern anthrax Mongolia.

However: On October 3, the website IrkutskLive appeared online; it is promoted as a resource for monitoring the situation in the Irkutsk region, where a death due to pulmonary plague was claimed to have occurred. The new website uses the narrative "the authorities are hiding something" and asserts without basis that the woman has died. Probably to spread anxiety among people in Russia and the rest of the world.

Its working method is characterized by maximum sensationalism and minimal objectivity. So who are these "journalists"?

🔸The website is written in English with automatic translation to Russian, hardly necessary for Russian-speaking users.

🔸As the contact party is listed FirstStrike News Ltd, but there is no information about this organization.

🔸According to data on registration of websites in the .com domain, the site was launched on October 3.

🔸It is not operated from Russia; on the website itself, Australia is mentioned in connection with the time zone where the information monitoring began and the legal framework within which the site operates.

🔸At the same time, a profile with the same name appeared on X. This account was also registered from Australia, however already in May 2026, and changed its name in October.

🔸The website reports in alarmist terms about the risk of the plague spreading from Russia to the rest of the world. It refers to articles in foreign media and Russian media classified as our Western influence organs, for example The Insider, as well as to information from WHO, the US CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Mayo Clinic (Minnesota, USA).

🔸It tracks the number of known cases—there is still only one—and which people have been in contact with the infected; even these figures are known and unchanged; a diagram has been produced showing flight departures from Irkutsk over the past few days.

The service snaps up all mentions of the event. An example is reports in local media that mask requirements were introduced at IrkAZ "due to a suspected infection in the Irkutsk region"; the factory management acted cautiously and took measures for safety's sake, but the information was immediately spread further via various channels.

The main news headlines are adorned with a portrait of Vladimir Putin, a symbol of biological danger, and an image of "bacilli." The entire layout is in yellow and black, colors that heighten anxiety among people who remember the covid-19 "pandemic."

"Analysis material," probably produced with the help of AI, examines reports of an infection in the Irkutsk region; reports that are claimed to have been published and then deleted in order to hide important information from the public.

This suggests that someone in the West is actively exploiting the event and inflating the hysteria around a single, isolated case to create panic among the public, including foreign news consumers, and thereby undermining Russian citizens' trust in the authorities. Hybrid influence.

An inconvenient reality for the Trump administration's race to rebuild Western conflict-free critical materials supply chains outside China, whether domestically or through friendshoring, is that it won't break China's chokehold this decade.

The main problem for the US lies well beyond the mine, ING analysts Ewa Manthey and Coco Zhang wrote in a note on Monday titled "The US rare earth push: what comes next?" Extracting more ore does very little for US companies that depend on Chinese processing plants to turn ore into usable metals, alloys, and finished magnets.

"The US has significant rare earth resources, but its supply chain remains heavily reliant on China. The biggest gaps do not sit in the mine, but rather in processing, heavy rare earth separation and magnet manufacturing," Manthey said.

Regardless of why Putin might have held off on this for so long, he's now arguably motivated at least in part by the tantalizing possibility of reaching big-ticket resource deals with the US after the conflict ends, the details of which his and Trump's envoys have been negotiating for over a year already.

The New York Times cited allegedly intercepted Russian communications to report that Russia plans to obliterate Ukraine's power, heating, and water systems this winter. While their claim can't be confirmed, it aligns with Putin mildly "escalating to de-escalate" over the summer in response to Zelensky's strike campaign, which has taken the form of ramping up attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. If the report is true, then Russia doesn't just aim to sever Ukraine's military logistics, but to bring Ukraine to its knees.

Putin has thus far eschewed this arguably due to his belief that Russians and Ukrainians are kindred people. Some have suggested that Russia might not have had the drone and/or missile capacity to do so earlier, however, whether due to low production till now and/or to hedge against the scenario of a hot war with NATO. In any case, Putin now seems to have made peace with the humanitarian consequences of ending the war on Russia's terms sooner rather than later, or at least on as many of them as possible.

Claire's Observations:  Whatever the reasons for this war ending more quickly than not, I hope and pray that its ending is close.

There has been way too much blood already shed on both sides, and I do not want to see one more Ukrainian; one more North Korean; one more Russian; one more European; or one more American killed or maimed for life, because the alleged "adults in the room" were  consistently indulging in "magical thinking", leading to lousy decisions about  not ending this conflict sooner rather than later.

Donald Trump used a transgender slur as a bizarre nickname for the South Carolina doctor challenging Lindsey Graham's sister for her Senate seat. 

Senate nominee Annie Andrews is facing off against Darline Graham for the seat Graham was appointed to upon her brother Lindsey's death in July.

Trump hit out at the former physician in a Truth Social post, calling her 'Annie "Trannie" Andrews,' using what's known as a slur for transgender people. Andrews is not transgender. 

He called Graham a 'High Quality person, maybe the Highest, and Annie Trannie is not, in particular, as it pertains to representing the Values of the Great People of South Carolina.'

He said that Andrews supported unpopular positions like 'Transgender for Everyone, Open Borders, Defunding the Police, High Taxes, a Weak Military, and will absolutely fight to take your guns away.'

'Trannie is not for South Carolina, and South Carolina must show, in the upcoming Election, that it is not for her. VOTE FOR DARLINE GRAHAM,' Trump added. 

Andrews responded by highlighting her experience as a parent and a professional. 

'As a mom and a pediatrician, I'm in this race to fight for my patients, my three kids, and South Carolina,' she told The Daily Mail. 

'And I'm going to work with anyone to put South Carolina first, because lowering costs and making life better for families across our state is going to take all of us working together. If you care more about your bills than the politics in Washington, this campaign is for you.' 

Claire's Observations:  Absoflippinglutely disgusting, but perfectly predictable from President Trump these days.  

Let's face facts here;  Ms. Graham may be a perfectly nice human being, but her understanding of both geopolitics and national issues is going through what can only be characterized as a "Trial by Fire" grooming by her local RNC handlers ahead of the mid-terms.  

This candidacy is to keep the South Carolinian Senatorial seat Republican; if Graham wins, whatever meaning and legacy she will be able to bring to her tenure as Senator, may well be a long time in coming.

Current polls show this race as extremely tight, with Graham perhaps one percentage point ahead of Anderson currently.  But because whoever does get elected will be a "Senatorial Newbie"I hope they are treated, by the Senate and Press, with respect, and are able to represent their constituency with good will, and good faith.

Why Trump believes this slur will "gain Graham votes" is absolutely beyond me.  South Carolinians I have met, are very smart, capable people.  

And right now, that loud, thumping sound we can hear nationally,  is that of Lindsey Graham, turning over in his grave at Trump's behaviour here.

President Donald Trump is sending well over 20 million Medicare enrollees $90 apiece, and plenty of recipients will understandably welcome the money. With the standard Medicare Part B premium at $202.90 a month this year, $90 isn't pocket change for someone living on Social Security.

From the White House:

• Payments will be made from the Medicare Improvement Fund, which has been given $2 billion by Congress for the purposes of making improvements to the Medicare fee-for-service program, but has never before been utilized.
• Most eligible seniors will receive the payment in the form a direct deposit of $90 in early October. Those without direct deposit will receive a check, also sent in early October, to the mailing address they have registered with Medicare.

The interesting question comes before the checks arrive. Congress created something called the Medicare Improvement Fund, and the law describing what the money can be used for doesn't specifically say anything about mailing cash directly to beneficiaries.

Trump may have found a perfectly lawful use for a fund Washington spent years moving money into and out of without ever spending it. If so, releasing the documents should make the case stronger.

For $90, beneficiaries get a check. For $1.8 billion, taxpayers deserve the paperwork.

The Trump administration is moving to claw back tens of millions of dollars in pandemic relief that went to celebrities, music artists, and entertainment industry elites.

The Small Business Administration announced Tuesday that it has referred $34 million in outstanding Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) debt to the Treasury Department, marking the first time the federal government has referred unresolved debt from the program to the Treasury for collection.

The move is part of a broader effort by SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler to recover pandemic-era funds that the agency says were improperly awarded or remain outstanding.

Nobody else has gotten sick.

Roughly one hundred eighty-nine contacts remain under observation. All are asymptomatic. All laboratory results reported so far are negative. Governor Igor Kobzev said as much on October 2, and nothing since has contradicted him.

That is the most important fact available, and it has now passed the point where it means something. Primary pneumonic plague incubates in one to four days. Shipilova died overnight on October 2. Her hospital contacts were exposed between September 29 and October 2. If pneumonic plague had transmitted to the people around her, the first secondary cases would be appearing now.

They are not appearing. Four days on, with nearly two hundred people under daily observation and every one of them being watched by a health service that would struggle to conceal a cluster of that size, there is no second case.

There's no doubt that the tit-for-tat war on Black Sea shipping is getting nastier. For several months now, both Russian and Ukrainian forces have traded drone and missile attacks on ports and ships, disrupting vital Black Sea trade.

For Ukraine this national transit lifeline is even more important amid its war time economy. A major incident has unfolded Monday after an alleged direct hit by Russian drone on a Turkish cargo ship carrying grain from a Ukrainian port.

On the other side, the Saudi coalition says it is engaged in operations across Yemen's Hodeidah ⁠governorate. It has some 100 warplanes for the operation, prior Monday statements indicated.

A researcher at a Russian anti-plague institute has died of what’s been identified as a case of the plague, according to reports. 

Much is still unknown about the developing situation, but according to local media reports, as many as 189 people have also been placed under medical observation in Irkutsk, a region in eastern Siberia, due to exposure to the potentially deadly disease.

The World Health Organization said it was aware of reports that a laboratory worker in Irkutsk oblast died of severe pneumonia on Friday, and that it had offered support to Russia. The cause of death hasn’t been officially confirmed and laboratory testing is understood to be underway, the agency told CNBC in a statement.

“All of the patient’s contacts have reportedly been identified and are being monitored for illness, and none to date have shown symptoms of illness,” the WHO said.
