Trump says North Carolina redistricting ruling 'unfair'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — President Donald Trump says the prospect of North Carolina drawing new congressional districts just weeks before the November midterm elections is "unfair."
A panel of federal judges this week struck down the state's congressional map, saying Republican state legislators went too far in using political data to preserve GOP-held seats. The judges raised the possibility of drawing new districts by mid-September so they can be used in the Nov. 6 elections, or at least before the new Congress is seated in January.

Jeremy Corbyn and the ‘Jewish Question’

"Rabbi Jonathan Sacks’s reaction [to Jeremy Corbyn], however, takes us to a new level in our understanding of the Zionist mindset. The rabbi actually accused Corbyn of implying that “Jews are not fully British”. But that was not what Corbyn said or implied. He suggested that Zionists are not exactly British, a statement that poses no problem for most Zionists since they openly and voluntarily swear allegiance to another state, one that is nationalist, racist and expansionist and shares few, if any, values with Britain or the West.

The Russian Navy will hold drills in the Mediterranean Sea, near Syria, in the period from September 1 to September 8, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on August 30. The drills will involve 25 warships led by the Marshal Ustinov missile cruiser and 30 aircraft, including the strategic Tu-160 missile-carrying bombers, the Tu-142MK and Il-38 anti-submarine warfare planes, Su-33 fighter jets and Su-30SM aircraft of naval aviation. The defense ministry said that “the grouping will practice a set of tasks of air defense, anti-submarine and anti-sabotage warfare and also mine counter-measures support”.

According to Syrian experts, these drills are a response to the growing threat of a new round of US missile strikes on government facilities in Syria.

US-trained militants planned to carry out terrorist attacks in Palmyra – Russian MoD

US specialists were training militants in Syria who were set to carry out a terrorist attacks in Palmyra, the Russian Defense Ministry has said. It received the information from fighters captured by the Syrian Army.

The captured militants said that they were from the Lions of the East Army group, which is affiliated with the Free Syrian Army, according to the ministry. Some 500 fighters were based at the militants’ camp, which was located near the US-led international coalition’s Al-Tanf military base.

The militants were to carry out “a series of terrorist attacks in Palmyra area” and ensure the passage of around 300 fighters to capture the city within the next week, the ministry said. One of the captured militants said that they were trained by US instructors, and that the group was receiving weapons and ammunition from the US base.

Corbyn and the Jewish Question

It doesn’t take a genius to detect the present volatile state of British Jewish institutions. To the outside observer, some of the actions of Britain’s so-called Jewish ‘leaders’ may seem to be a form of collective insanity. Yet, the Brits do not seem to be at all impressed. They are perplexed by the self-propelled collective hysteria. Naturally, many Brits do not agree with Corbyn on issues; some may not agree with his pacifist politics, others see him as a naïve delusional lefty, a few are upset by his association with controversial characters, but no one except a few Israel firsters sees Corbyn as a crazed ‘anti-Semite,’ let alone as a Hitler type who puts Jewish life under an “existential threat.” While it isn’t clear whether Corbyn can unite the Brits against their horrid government, it is increasingly likely that the Zionist lobby has the capacity to unite the Brits behind Corbyn.

Russia Increases Presence In The Mediterranean To Protect Syria, Says NATO

The Russian navy is increasing its presence in the Mediterranean Sea in the face of growing tensions related to the war in Syria, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said on Wednesday.

The Russian Federation provided military support considered essential for Syrian government forces, who are expected to intensify the offensive in northern Idlib province, the country’s last major rebel stronghold.

“We will not speculate on the intention of the Russian fleet, but it is important that all actors in the region exercise restraint and refrain from worsening an already disastrous humanitarian situation in Syria,” NATO’s chief spokeswoman, Oana Lungescu, said Wednesday.

Syrian CHECKMATE: Americans Will HAVE TO LEAVE, Idlib Lockdown Means Russia Drives U.S To DEAD END

The US will exert every effort to provoke the situation in Idlib, since the destruction of the last bulwark of terrorists will deprive them of their reason for being in Syria. This was stated by political scientist Igor Shatrov. According to the expert, the situation around Syrian Idlib, the last major concentration zone of militants opposing Damascus, means that the United States and its allies are really preparing a large-scale provocation.

The reason for this, the political scientist notes, is the risk for the US to finally lose control over what is happening in the SAR. “We need to understand why the probability of an aggravation of the conflict in Syria is greater than ever, because while Trump was engaged in the struggle with Russia or his establishment on other fronts, the situation in Syria has begun to come to normal. By and large, except Idlib, there are no more terrorists anywhere.

The president has long lost control of the parliament and on the eve of the elections his opponents will think three times before creating a precedent for the Rada’s consolidated vote for the president’s proposal. Moreover, Poroshenko’s opponents are building their election campaign on the basis of the theses on the need to end the civil war and normalize relations with Russia. It is clear that the denunciation of the Treaty of Friendship … will not contribute to the achievement of these goals. It is just in the mainstream of the Poroshenko’s radical nationalist electoral program. Denunciation of the treaty will show that the Verkhovna Rada has rallied around Poroshenko, as around the leader of the war party. It can untie his hands to attack the opposition.

WATCH: Don Lemon To Colbert: Border Policy About Whites ‘Losing Their Privilege’

Colbert opined, “One of the things that’s sort of a recurring, distressing data point and theme with this administration is using race as a tool to divide people.”

Train project linking North and South Korea stopped in its tracks by US

A rail project meant to connect North and South Korea has been blocked by US military officials, highlighting divisions between Washington and Seoul on how to deal with the nuclear armed North.

The two Koreas planned to begin a joint field study last week by sending a train from Seoul across the length of North Korea to Sinuiju, on the Chinese border, but their application was denied by the US-led United Nations Command. The multinational military body is a remnant of the 1950-53 Korean war and controls all movement across the heavily fortified demilitarised zone that bisects the peninsula.

The denial underscores a growing split between South Korea, which favours engagement with North Korea, and the US, where officials have demanded denuclearisation as a prerequisite to any economic cooperation.

Candidates for UK Labour Party’s governing body share their thoughts on adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism

Next week the UK Labour Party’s governing body, the National Executive Committee (NEC), will be voting on whether to adopt the examples put forth by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in its definition of antisemitism. The four examples omitted at present are: 1) Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel; 2) Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis; 3) Applying double standards to Israel by requiring of it a behaviour not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation; and 4) Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavour.

I wrote to all 26 NEC members to seek their views. Of the 15 that came back, 6 were for adopting the full IHRA definition with the examples, 7 were for no change, and 2 wereunsure. Of those in favour, I posed the question “If it’s passed and I said Israel is a racist state, would I get expelled?”

Earlier this month, health officials in Gaza announced that they would be stopping chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients due to a shortage of medicine. As a result, the lives of thousands of cancer patients were thrown into uncertainty. Doctors, rights groups, and the patients themselves have pointed chiefly to the more than decade-long Israeli blockade of Gaza as a reason for the shortages. With Israel denying humanitarian permits into the country at an alarming rate, the chances for survival for cancer patients in Gaza get more slim with each passing day.

Israel’s smear campaign will not stop until Jeremy Corbyn fights back

As I have stated repeatedly, neither the left nor Labour are immune from the reality of anti-Semitism. However, all available statistical evidence shows that the level of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party is far less than such racism on the right. Anti-Jewish hatred extends across society, but is most prevalent amongst right-wingers, and especially so on the far-right.

Why, then, has there been nearly daily headlines over the summer about an “anti-Semitism crisis” in the Labour Party and nowhere else? The answer is clear for anyone who has eyes to see: this is an attempt to assassinate Jeremy Corbyn politically and break up the popular political movement that is close to taking him through that famous door in Downing Street.

The Stripe company explained that it was taking this action – after nine months without problems or complaints – because the IHR allegedly “engages in, encourages, promotes or celebrates unlawful violence toward any group based on race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or any other immutable characteristic.”

China, however, has made a qualitative leap in the last 10-15 years in establishing its own UAV scientific and technological infrastructure. The new Chinese UAV types are equal, and in some respects even superior to their US equivalents. They have a competitive price and, therefore, high export potential. This is true, for example, for the reconnaissance CH-5 (Caihong-5).

An Arizona developer who owes Iowa millions turned nursing homes and apartments into his cash cows, court filings allege

He has lived in Arizona for at least 30 years, though many of his business dealings — encompassing nursing homes, apartments and housing development — have been in Iowa.

His story, based on hundreds of filings in state and federal court, is about the intersection of commerce and health care in Iowa, and the profits that nursing homes can generate for owners whose primary business is real estate, not health care.

There are the two Keokuk nursing homes he allegedly used as a money-laundering operation, collecting $3 million in Medicaid overpayments while elderly residents complained they had been left to lay in their own urine.

Here are 11 reasons Jeff Sessions should be fired — and they have nothing to do with Mueller probe

President Donald Trump appears to have reluctantly acquiesced to fellow Republicans’ pleas to not fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions before the midterms.
The president has made it clear on multiple occasions that he finds Sessions unfit for his post, largely due to the fact that the Attorney General recused himself from the Russia probe. As the Mueller investigation escalated over the summer, Trump slammed Sessions for everything from not investigating Hillary Clinton to his Southern accent.
Trump’s attacks on Sessions—and what appears to be the inevitability of his firing—has created an odd scenario in which the Attorney General’s cause is being embraced by liberals, who are criticizing the president for taking vengeance on Sessions. After all, the Attorney General was merely following norms when he recused himself from the investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with Russia, because his role in the campaign created a conflict of interest.
