The Hidden Costs Behind Every Government Program

By Gor Mkrtchian

When the State constructs a new bike lane, school, or begins a new space mission, the natural inclination of the majority is to cheer this new endeavor as progressive. We possess one new structure or have accomplished one new task than before; society has moved forward, the thinking goes.

The State is responsible for truly technically impressive or beautiful accomplishments like the Apollo missions, the Moscow Metro, the Palace of Versailles, etc. that most would agree clearly produce benefits for society.

Confronted with these concrete and widely celebrated examples of government accomplishments, how can libertarians deny that state action is sometimes a benevolent force in society?...

American Apocalypse: The Government’s Plot to Destabilize the Nation Is Working

“The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out … without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, intolerable.” — H. L. Mencken

The U.S. government is working hard to destabilize the nation.

No, this is not another conspiracy theory.

Although it is certainly not far-fetched to suggest that the government might be engaged in nefarious activities that run counter to the best interests of the American people, doing so will likely brand me a domestic terrorist under the FBI’s new classification system.

Observe for yourself what is happening right before our eyes.

Over-Taxed: The Middle Class Is Being Wiped Out, NJ Residents Flee In Droves

New Jersey residents are fleeing their state in droves thanks to the over taxation and immense financial burden placed on them by their socialist state government. In addition to the already sky-high federal tax that we are all forced to pay, those in New Jersey are struggling to make enough money to live after the state also steals a cut of their income.

The SALT (state and local tax) cap has hit high-tax states like New York, California, and New Jersey particularly hard because these states steal a higher portion of an individual’s income. As a result, affected residents have begun to move to other states – a trend that experts expect to accelerate, according to Fox Business.

Want to Fix Health Insurance? Start With the Tax Code

By Ethan Lamb

In March, President Trump tweeted, “The Republican Party will become ‘the party of healthcare!’”

Given the GOP’s inability to deliver on that promise over the better part of the past decade, many have remained despondent. After all, health care policy may be the one area where such disparate visions would make any attempt at compromise futile and, perhaps, even counterproductive. But underneath the tribalistic bullheadedness and partisan signaling lies a common enemy: employer-sponsored health insurance...

The county seized and sold his property...

Sorry, I Don’t Want to Pay for More Bombs: Bitcoin as a Hedge Against Funding War

By Graham Smith

After nearly two decades of U.S.-led coalition bombs falling on the Middle East, peace in the region still has not been achieved. Now the United States is once again bolstering military forces, this time in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, taxpayers in multiple countries are being forced to pay for these ill-fated and unethical campaigns, with little to no say in the matter. Bitcoin and cryptocurrency provide a means, however, to store and move value in peaceful ways, in lieu of donating to the murder of strangers overseas...

Fox's Ainsley Earhardt defends giant corporations paying no taxes: "So what?"

EARHARDT: Listen, when you create 300,000 jobs, so what if you get a tax break? That's great. We want you to come to New York. Remember when Amazon was supposed to come here, and then it was squashed by all these lawmakers? It's ridiculous. If you hire 300,000 people, they all live in your community, right? Not only are you employing them so that they feel good about themselves, they're working hard, but also they spend money in your community, they buy houses, they pay taxes, they send their kids to school. It's ridiculous. So what if they don't pay as much in taxes as everyone else does?

Sanders: Socialism Will Spike Taxes, But Americans Will Be ‘Delighted’ To Pay Extra

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders acknowledged a tax increase from his policies and said Americans would be “delighted” to pay extra, in a CNN interview with Anderson Cooper Wednesday.

“I suspect that a lot of people in this country would be delighted to pay more in taxes if they had comprehensive health care as a human right,” Sanders said. The Vermont senator also went on to tell Cooper that he bases his principles on his 50-mile proximity to the Canadian border, where universal health care is law.

What Sanders did not include in his statement was the cost of his programs. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University released a study in 2018 saying Americans can estimate to foot a $32.6 trillion bill over a 10-year period for “Medicare for All,” Fox News reported. Sanders has also omitted cost information on his campaign website.

NBC Promotes Kamala Harris’s ‘Big Idea’ to Jack Up the Death Tax

While completely ignoring those facts, Smith allowed Harris to freely declare “we will pay for it by increasing the estate tax.” Estate tax, a.k.a. the death tax.

This Democrat-policy megaphone segment came shortly after the network boosted former Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Iowa, where he decried President Trump’s trade war because it hurt Iowa farmers. But one of the largest threats to family farms (like the ones in Iowa) was the death tax.

Because of the value wrapped up in all aspects of farming and its illiquid nature, it can become nearly impossible for families to keep their farms when they’re forced to pay massive death taxes after a loved one passes.

How Connecticut's "Tax On The Rich" Ended: Middle-Class Tax Hikes, Lost Jobs, More Poverty

In the past 30 years, just one U.S. state has adopted a progressive income tax: Connecticut. It made the switch from a flat income tax in 1996, phasing in the progressive income tax over three years.

The results were disastrous. And they should halt, or at least caution, Illinois lawmakers now pushing to do the same.

Connecticut’s experience is a warning that switching to a progressive income tax will eventually end in a tax hike on Illinois’ struggling middle class, result in fewer jobs – particularly for those on the margins of the labor force – and increase poverty. It will fail to combat inequality or fix the state’s finances.

While Connecticut lawmakers sold the progressive tax as a way to provide middle-class tax relief and reduce property taxes, neither occurred. Instead, everyday taxpayers have been hit with recurring income and property tax hikes.

Californians dodge another tax increase as lawmaker pulls bill opposed by tire dealers

A proposal to raise the California tire change fee, which critics called a tax that would hit lower-income residents hardest, has been pulled at the request of its sponsor.

Assemblyman Chris Holden, D-Pasadena, requested that Assembly Bill 755 be shelved on Wednesday.

“We are in the first year of a two year legislative session, and we need more time to work with stakeholders so that we can successfully navigate it through the legislative process and ultimately deliver a solution that many cities need to mitigate stormwater contamination,” Holden said in a statement.

AB 755 was part of a raft of tax increase proposals considered by the Democrat-controlled Legislature this session. The bill would have raised the tire change fee from $1.75 to $3.25, with the estimated $55 million in annual revenue going into the state’s Stormwater Permit Compliance Fund.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here’s a Lesson From the 108,000 Millionaires Who Left Their Home Countries Last Year

By Simon Black, Sovereign Man

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, more than 108,000 millionaires left their home countries last year in search of greener pastures.

Most emigrated from countries like China and Russia… no surprise there.

India also saw a large outflow of millionaires as tax authorities tightened their grip. And Turkey continues to see an exodus, in the wake of strong-man President Erdogan.

But Western countries like France and England also lost boat loads (or planes full) of millionaires. Excessive taxation is the most obvious reason...
