Samples taken from the Navy water system tested positive for jet fuel after the military and the state health department declared it was safe to drink, according to testing by University of Hawaii researchers.

Hawaii is receiving its final shipment of coal this week, which Gov. David Ige called a huge step forward in the state’s transition to clean energy. What he meant was that local are about to pay a lot more for basic essentials.

A law put in place a couple of years ago will finally shut down the island’s last coal burning power plant. And since coal is the dirtiest * but cheapest - source of power for Oahu, it means that all else equal, power prices are about to skyrocket.

A massive wave sparked from hurricane remnants crashed into -- and over a two-story condo building in Hawaii as parts of the Big Island dealt with heavy surf over the weekend.

Oceanfront buildings along Keauhou-Kona took the brunt of "historic" surf conditions Saturday. Swells were forecast to reach as high as 20 feet along the southern coast of Hawaii Island.

"These intense waves are all because of the remnants of what was once Hurricane Darby," says FOX Weather Meteorologist Jane Minar.

As Tropical Storm Darby continues to weaken, it is expected to impact Hawaii this weekend. 

In a Tropical Storm Warning, the National Weather Service in Honolulu said Saturday that tropical storm conditions are expected Saturday as it moves south of the Big Island, including isolated thunderstorms. 

The office issued a High Surf Warning for the southern-facing shores of all Hawaiian islands. 

Hawaii Gov. David Ige vetoed 28 bills enacted by lawmakers, including one that would have curbed the governor's authority amid an emergency.

Senate Bill 3089 would have bolstered the legislature to end a state of emergency, allowed the governor to demand counties to get approval before publishing an emergency order and clarified the scope of suspensions of law during an emergency.

A former Hawaii prosecuting attorney turned himself in Friday to the FBI in connection with a public corruption probe that has already resulted in the conviction of the former police chief of Honolulu.

Keith Mitsuyoshi Kaneshiro surrendered just before 6 a.m. local time and was indicted on conspiracy to commit honest services fraud and federal program bribery and conspiracy against rights, FOX affiliate KHON2 reported.
