Turkey will support inviting Finland and Sweden into NATO at the alliance’s upcoming summit in Spain, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto announced on Tuesday after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson.
The three countries signed a memorandum of understanding at the meeting, organized with the support of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“The concrete steps for our accession to NATO will be agreed among NATO allies over the next two days, but that decision is now imminent,” said Niinisto. “I am pleased that this stage on Finland’s journey towards NATO membership has been completed.”
According to Turkey, Finland and Sweden pledged to “condemn terrorism in all its forms” and end their support for organizations Ankara has designated as terrorist – including the Kurdish groups PKK and YPG, as well as the movement led by the exiled cleric Fetullah Gulen, which the Turkish government refers to as “FETO.”
“Turkey got what it wanted,” Erdogan said in a statement after the deal was announced.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Stoltenberg said that Finland and Sweden will become observers in NATO at the upcoming summit. He added that the memorandum includes provisions on fighting terrorism and arms exports, including adopting stricter national legislation.
A Bronx election site didn’t have Republican ballots for New York’s primary race for hours Tuesday morning as thousands headed to the polls to cast their vote for governor, The Post has learned.
One voter, Ed Gavin, 62, arrived at the polling site in Spuyten Duyvil around 8:15 a.m. to cast his vote for GOP gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino but after checking in with a poll worker, he was handed a Democrat ballot instead, he said.
“My party never came up, my political preferences were never discussed … I opened the sleeve and I saw the names of Tom Suozzi, Kathy Hochul and Jumaane Williams. These were all Democrats for governor,” Gavin, a retired Department of Correction assistant deputy warden, told The Post.
“I flipped it over because I thought maybe the Republicans were on the back but there were no Republicans.”
Gavin was incredulous and went back to the poll worker to inform them he’d been given the wrong ballot.
“They told me ‘we don’t have any Republican ballots,’” Gavin recalled.
During an appearance on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report,” Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK) said that the message has been “lost” that the Dobbs decision doesn’t actually ban abortion.
The Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned previous abortion precedent established by the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade, didn’t ban abortion, instead returning the issue to the states to decide.
That fact is being missed amid the outcry over the ruling, Bice said on Newsmax Saturday as she spoke about the massive pro-abortion protests that have erupted across the country.
“I think that that’s a message that’s being lost here,” the Oklahoma congresswoman said. “Certainly, people have the right to protest as long as it’s in a peaceful manner, but [the ruling] doesn’t ban abortion. I think that’s being missed here. This is a state rights issue now, and it puts that back to the people so they can elect elected officials like we have in Oklahoma that protect life.”
Scientists using data from NASA’s Curiosity rover measured the total organic carbon – a key component in the molecules of life – in Martian rocks for the first time.
“Total organic carbon is one of several measurements [or indices] that help us understand how much material is available as feedstock for prebiotic chemistry and potentially biology,” said Jennifer Stern of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. “We found at least 200 to 273 parts per million of organic carbon. This is comparable to or even more than the amount found in rocks in very low-life places on Earth, such as parts of the Atacama Desert in South America, and more than has been detected in Mars meteorites.”
Organic carbon is carbon bound to a hydrogen atom. It is the basis for organic molecules, which are created and used by all known forms of life. However, organic carbon on Mars does not prove the existence of life there because it can also come from nonliving sources, such as meteorites, volcanoes, or be formed in place by surface reactions. Organic carbon has been found on Mars before, but prior measurements only produced information on particular compounds, or represented measurements capturing just a portion of the carbon in the rocks. The new measurement gives the total amount of organic carbon in these rocks.
Although the surface of Mars is inhospitable for life now, there is evidence that billions of years ago the climate was more Earth-like, with a thicker atmosphere and liquid water that flowed into rivers and seas. Since liquid water is necessary for life as we understand it, scientists think Martian life, if it ever evolved, could have been sustained by key ingredients such as organic carbon, if present in sufficient amount.

He resigned amid criticism he had failed to react effectively to the building being overrun.
The truth of the matter is that, warts and all, our civilisation was doing quite well and heading in the right direction on may fronts DEPSITE concerted efforts to subvert and derail that progress.
We have, by increments, been heading for quite some time towards a Golden Age of peace and prosperity in the teeth of outright sabotage from globalist vested interests determined to keep us locked in their Dark Age of war, poverty and strife.
The effort to keep man cowed, dismayed, low in self esteem and afraid continues with increasing desperation.
We’ve seen this effort manifested in the Covid Terror op and the Mass Poisoning Event whereby millions were conned or browbeaten into submitting to booby-trapped vaccines, the current drive to engineer economic distress, the effort to undermine human rights and so on.
The Group of Seven (G7) leading Western economies reached an agreement on Tuesday to set a price cap on Russian oil exports, Politico reported, citing unnamed officials.
The details of the agreement have not been revealed. However, according to reports, the US suggested lifting sanctions on insurance for ships that transport Russian oil only if countries agreed to buy it at a settled maximum price, thus enforcing a price cap, RT reported.
G7 member states also rejected the idea of a worldwide price cap on oil prices, proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday. The proposal was reportedly waived by the US and Germany, and France had agreed to withdraw it.
The agreement comes as Western countries are trying to deal with rising energy prices and inflation as a result of their sanctions and embargoes on Russian oil.
While the restrictions are aimed at depleting the “Russian war chest” allegedly used to fund the ongoing military operation in Ukraine, Moscow has been earning more money from its energy exports than prior to the sanctions due to higher prices, RT reported.
The idea of a price cap was first introduced by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen earlier this year, and then taken up by the G7, which has reportedly been holding “constructive” talks on the matter over the past three days, at its annual summit in Germany.

Tuition and board at the academy was $42,000 per year.
South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem announced Sunday that she introduced a bill banning telemedicine abortions, where a pill is prescribed online or over the phone and shipped to a woman.
She justified her legislation to CBS's "Face the Nation" by saying that abortions via pill are "very dangerous medical procedures, a woman is five times more likely to end up in an emergency room if they're utilizing this kind of method for abortion."
The governor already introduced a bill in January banning telemedicine abortions. The prohibition became law in March, but it has been on hold since February due to legal challenges.
"This is an FDA approved drug," host Margaret Brennan interrupted during Noem's explanation.
Noem continued by stressing the importance of medical supervision over abortions and said decisions should be made at a state level. Her comments come after the Supreme Court overruled the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade on Friday.
